Dr. Kohei Kometani receives the 8th Japanese Society for Immunology Research Encouragement Award

October 15, 2013 NEWS

Kohei Kometani, a Researcher in the Laboratory for Lymphocyte Differentiation, received the Research Encouragement Award of the Japanese Society for Immunology for his identification of molecules responsible for antibody production by B lymphocytes.  He studied the mechanisms behind primary and secondary immunological memory, and found that regulation of B cell signaling by CIN85 is essential for T cell-independent antigen immune responses. He also showed that regulation of the Bach2 transcription factor is important for the formation of immunological memory and the prompt secondary immune response.

This award is given to young investigators, age 40 or younger, who have performed distinguished immunological research.
