Identification of gene(PADI4) involved in rheumatoid arthritis

June 30, 2003 PRESS RELEASE

The Laboratory for Rheumatic Diseases with Sankyo and Tokyo University, discovered an Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) –ralated gene using SNPs. The laboratory compared an RA group with a non-RA group and found a difference between the two in the gene that produces PADI4, an enzyme presumed to be closely involved in RA development.
The research result was published in the August issue of U.S. science journal "Nature Genetics".
