Joint research on genetic polymorphisms

December 26, 2000 PRESS RELEASE

RIKEN plans to conduct joint research with Sankyo Co., Ltd. into genetic polymorphisms, with the objective of discovering genes associated with chronic rheumatoid arthritis, analyzing their functions, and developing new drugs. We are also conducting joint research on genetic polymorphisms with the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Tokyo. Previously, we had sought out companies interested in conducting joint research with our Laboratories in order to facilitate the transfer of technologies generated through our research. We concluded a three-year agreement on this joint research with Sankyo that will begin on 1 January 2001.
SRC also plans to continue pursuing joint research opportunities with companies in order to facilitate the efficient transfer of our research technologies to industry, including work on genetic polymorphisms associated with conditions other than chronic rheumatoid arthritis.
