Laboratory for Mucosal Immunity

The gastrointestinal tract is a site of extraordinarily complex and dynamic host-bacterial interactions. The relationship between gut microbiota and the immune system is one of reciprocity: commensals have important contribution in nutrient processing and education/fitness of the immune system and conversely, the immune system, particularly gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) through IgA, plays a key role in shaping the repertoire of gut microbiota. Our laboratory aims to understand the mechanisms that underlie this reciprocity, and to apply such knowledge for health and disease of the immune system.
